A Video of Me Making People Laugh..

Hi, I’m James. Stand Up, Writer & able to guess a revel by touch alone

Welcome to my website, a simple landing space to find out more about me, where i’m gigging and anything else I fancy dumping here.

I’m a stand-up comedian & writer with around 4 years experience overall (although there’s a 12 year gap between these accumulative years) based in the midlands. You will mainly find me gigging around there, but I travel to many places across the UK taking part in all sorts of comedy nights & festivals.

In my early gigging days I won a variety of gong shows at Funhouse Comedy, Beat the Frog & Mr Bens, alongside reaching the semi-finals of So You Think You’re Funny & Laughing Horse New Act of the Year.

Since returning in 2024, i’ve since debuted my first solo show at Edinburgh, Leicester, Buxton & Derby fringe festivals, where it received a 4 star review from One4Review and award Best Debut Show 2025 from Den of Laughs. Alongside loads more great feedback and testimonials.

Nice things folks have said about me…

“Brimming with wit and invention”

This show should not be read as a comeback, but as a continuation—an extension of a life that has accumulated more stories and perspective. He speaks of parenthood (one child born in the back of a car), of ageing, of resilience. The material is consistently strong: a routine about sex to the shuffle of a love-song playlist, a reimagining of the Olympic Games, and stray, darkly funny thoughts about parents overthinking whether to leave children at motorway service stations. These aren’t scraps of a man dusting off his act; they are the observations of someone who has lived, and who has returned with more to say.

“Fast, Scattergun and Very Funny”

I imagine Beckett wouldn’t want to be described as ‘courageous’. A comedian lives or dies by whether or not they are funny, not by how much resolve they have. But it was impossible not to at least imagine how much resolve is needed to get back on the comedy horse after twelve years away. Particularly since the reason you stopped is still there, just waiting to torpedo your delivery. But if you get it right, explosions can be funny too.”

“One of my top 3 shows of this fringe”

Couldn’t agree more with the other reviews.

We came for the crossword, stayed for the laughs and left with the feels.

One of my top 3 shows of this fringe from the list of 50 shows I watched in 2026. The balance James gets between humour, getting a simple resounding message across and an emotional payoff is handled masterfully. Often this is done clumsily, too heavy handed or not at all whereas James gets it just right.

I left this show feeling both entertained and uplifted. Inspiring.

“Everyone in the room didn’t hesitate to provide a standing ovation for this”

The biggest surprise of this years fringe by miles. We smiled, we laughed and even cried. Everyone in the room didn’t hesitate to provide a standing ovation for this show (as its fully deserved) which i could see made James quite emotional at the end.

This is the mark of a comedian who really cares about his craft and clearly works very hard at it. This is a 5 star show, a future star who i will be following for years to come.

Please don’t quit again James! We love you.

“Captivating audiences with a fearlessness that I’ve never seen before”

The show is as hilarious as it is inspiring!

Throughout Eventually James Beckett bares his soul, captivating audiences with a fearlessness that I’ve never seen before. We’re so lucky to have you doing stand up once again!

The only thing bigger than the laughs, is this man’s heart.

“Laugh-out-loud funny throughout”

Great balance of personal anecdotes and comedy. Laugh-out-loud funny throughout but personal and warm, too. Felt like a very entertaining chat in someone very funny’s front room. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Also, great use of Duck Tales.

“Hilarious throughout and genuinely cathartic”

Excellent show. Hilarious throughout and genuinely cathartic. If I had the authority to assign stars, James Beckett easily earns the big five here.

“This was one of my very favourite shows this fringe”

I will never hear the Ducktales theme in the same way again! This was one of my very favourite shows this fringe, a real pleasant surprise in a converted karaoke booth. Super funny and heartwarming, 5 stars all round, go watch this show

“Brilliant”

We had so much fun watching this show, went with my husband and we had nonstop laughs and talked about it most of the way home. James was amazing we could really feel the love he puts into his show and how we handles his speech impediment is inspiring, not afraid to admit i had a few tears in my eye at the end to which i wasn’t expecting at all! Brilliant
